WP 8: and manufacturing of 2nd generation systems and components
WP8 will bring together input from multiple engineering disciplines at both material level (WP4)
and platform level (WP5), to design the complete wave to wire process.
This process is subdivided into the egg and rod systems, and the power generation and transmission systems, respectively.
The design of optimized egg and rod systems starts from the hydrodynamic behaviour and will consider impacts
or restrictions imposed by the power generation solution (WP7).
An overall cost effective design for the manufacturing of the first batch of eggs and rod system
for the 2nd generation device will be established.
The design of the power generation and transmission system for the 2nd generation device will be finalized and optimized.
The results achieved during the project suggested a modification of the objective of the SEEWEC project.
While the original FOł point absorber concept was platform-based, the results showed that it was worthwile to pursue an alternative based on a
single point absorber moored directly to the seabed rather than attached to a platform. This resulted in the design of the B1.
